The University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf, Germany (Fachhochschule Düsseldorf, FH D for short) was founded on 1 August 1971 by combining several renowned regional educational institutions. FH D started lectures with 120 professors and around 2200 students under the leadership of the founding rector, Professor Hans Albert Klüfer.

FH Aachen – Aachen University of Applied Sciences
The FH Aachen – Aachen University of Applied Sciences is one of the biggest Fachhochschulen in Germany with roughly 11,300 students, 220 professors, 300 contract lecturers, and 340 assistants. Fachhochschule Kiel University of Applied Sciences
Kiel University of Applied Sciences as we know it was founded on 1 August 1969 as a result of the merger of several state-run schools of engineering and technical colleges which in themselves can look back on a history of more than 100 years. Its campus is located directly on the waterfront of Kiel’s firth.
With its approximately 7,100 students (winter term 2013/2014), the Kiel University of Applied Sciences is the largest institution of its kind in Schleswig-Holstein. In 2010 the University established two research institutes (the Institute of Visual Computing and the Institute of Safety and Security Research) based on an external evaluation. Fraunhofer IZFP carries out research and development activities in the field of nondestructive testing processes along the entire materials value chain.
