Research Areas
Metabolic Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Fermentation Technology, Synthetic Biology
Research Overview
- Centre for Metabolic Engineering and Synthetic Biology mainly focuses on the production of various value-added chemicals and molecules using different microorganisms from low price or waste carbon sources.
- Genome engineering, metabolic engineering, and synthetic biology tools have been implemented for the synthesis of target products such as platform chemicals, nutraceuticals, and precursor chemicals.
- Microbial synthesis of 3-hydroxypropionic acid (3-HP), polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), vitamin-B12, and natural pigments are ongoing research activities.
- Conversion of seaweed biomass into value-added products is another process-oriented research in progress.
