INTERNATIONAL ADMISSION

The University course structure is innovative and this has enabled introduction of industry programs, Industry recommended electives, Interaction with high quality International Institutions and Qualification up-gradation program for working professionals. We were able to formulate industry relevant PG courses with Industry as Partner for proficiency development of working professionals in advanced technology areas.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

The Application Forms will be issued from January onwards. There are three modes of registration.

Online

Direct 

  • Candidates can obtain the application form from Vel Tech campus upon payment of  $ 45 or Rs 2250 by Cheque or DD drawn in favour of Vel Tech Dr.RR & Dr.SR Technical University payable at Chennai.

Download

  • Download the application. The filled–in application along with the DD for $45 or Rs.2250   drawn in favour of Vel Tech Dr.RR & Dr.SR Technical University payable at Chennai, should be sent so as to reach the university before the last date specified.
Admission Procedure

Please note that the International Admissions Office, VelTech Dr.RR & Dr. SR Technical University will handle the admission of NRI and Foreign students for all programs offered by the university. This office is most accessible by email. Applicants may find it very convenient to communicate through email communication@veltech.edu.in

 

    Step -1:

Candidates can apply to any of the programs offered by Vel Tech Dr.RR & Dr. SR Technical University by

  • Download the application form and submit the filled-in application form with a bank draft for USD 45/- or INR 2250/- in favour of Vel Tech Dr.RR & Dr.SR Technical University payable in Chennai
  • Obtain directly from the International Admissions Office, VelTech Dr.RR & Dr. SR Technical University, Avadi, Chennai and submit the filled-in application form with a demand draft USD 45/- or INR 2250/- in favour of Vel Tech Dr.RR & Dr. SR Technical University payable in Chennai
    Step -2:
  • Please fill the application carefully. If the marks are not available or not known while filling the application, please indicate “Results are awaited”. The candidate must send by email to the University the marks as soon as it is available. Only on receiving the marks the application can be considered . Kindly send the marks before the stipulated date.
    Step -3:
Attachments: Along with the application attach the following:
  • Certified copies of Mark/Grade Sheets of the qualifying examination, if available. If not, certified copies of mark sheets of the examination passed, immediately prior to the qualification examination. Where the mark sheets are in a language other than English, submit certified translated copy.
  • Copy of the first page or the pages containing personal data including date of issue of your Passport.
  • Certificate of Fund availability Certificate for International students as in Form-IV.
  • Migration Certificate as in Form-III.
  • One latest passport size photograph in addition to the one affixed on the application.
  • Duly filled in applications in all respects alongwith all required documents must be submitted on or before 6th June 2016 to the International admissions office, Vel Tech Dr.RR & Dr.SR TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY, #42-60 Avadi Vel Tech Road, Avadi, Chennai-600 062, Tamilnadu, India.
    Step -4:

Provisional Admission:

  • On receipt of complete applications, an acknowledgement and also the Registration Number will be e-mailed to you. For any additional information e-mail to admission.int@veltech.edu.in
  • Provisional Admission letter will be e-mailed with terms & conditions of admission including Tuition fees and other fees payable.
  • Tuition Fees and all other fees are payable only in US Dollars by Electronic transfer within 15 days from the date of receipt of provisional admission.

  • The tuition, hostel/ accommodation, and other applicable fees must be paid in US Dollars by electronic transfer only within 15 days from the date of receipt of the provisional admission letter by email. FEES REMITTED MUST BE EXCLUSIVE OF BANK CHARGES. Immediately after effecting the wire transfer kindly email the details to admission.int@veltech.edu.in. This would help in proper and timely credit.
    Step -6:

Confirmed Admission:

  • Once the full annual tuition fees, for the first year, are received and credited into our account, and on receipt of final mark sheets, the letter of confirmed admission will be sent by email. Please note that the fee has to be paid within the stipulated date and the admission will be confirmed on “Merit-cum-First Come First Serve” basis. Failure to pay the full tuition fees will automatically deprive the applicant of the admission opportunity and the university reserves the right to admit other eligible applicants without further notice. The confirmed admission letter may be used by students to apply for student visa, ticketing, insurance and others.
    Step -7:

VISA Requirment:

    • Foreigners entering India on a Student, Employment, Research or Missionary Visa, which is valid for more than 180 days, are required to register with the Foreigners Registration Officer under whose jurisdiction they propose to stay. This should be done within 14 days of arrival in India , irrespective of their actual period of stay.
    • Foreigners visiting India on any other category of long term VISA, which is valid for more than 180 days, are not required to register themselves if their actual stay does not exceed 180 days on each visit. If such a foreigner intends to stay in India for more than 180 days during a particular visit, he/she should get registered within 180 days of arrival in India .
    • Pakistan nationals are required to register within 24 hours of their arrival in India . Afghanistan nationals are required to register within 7 days of their arrival in India .
    • There is no fee charged for registration. However, USD30/- is charged for over-stay and/or late registration, if overstay is condoned by the competent authority.
    • Registration facilities are not provided at the Airport. Registration is done in the offices of FROs/CHIO or the Superintendents of Police/Districts.

Visa procedure for foreign students who are not Indian citizens

    • Valid Student Visa: India offers various kinds of visas, depending on the purpose of visit. Student visa is a visa specifically for the students wanting to come to India for education purpose. Student Visas are issued for the duration of the academic course of study or for a period of five years whichever is less, on the basis of letters of admission from Universities/recognized colleges or educational institutions in India .
    Pre-requisites for procuring a student visa:
  • To apply/ be eligible for a student visa, you need to conform to the following conditions. If you are on Government of India scholarships, the respective Indian missions would be advised by ICCR to issue a regular student visa after your admission in an Indian university is confirmed.
  • On the other hand, if you are coming as a self-financing student, you need to produce letters of admission from universities or recognized colleges and institutions in India for obtaining the regular student visa.
  • You need to mention the name of the Institute while applying for the visa, which is then mentioned on the visa. A request for change of university or institution subsequently made cannot be considered. In this case you would be required to go back to your home country and apply for a new visa.
  • “Change of purpose” of visit of international students to India is not allowed once they arrive in India . Therefore, if you come to India on tourist or any other type of visa, you cannot get this visa changed to student visa.
  • According to government regulations, if an international student coming to India on a tourist or any other type of visa (except a student visa ), obtains admission into a university or any institution in India, the student will be required to return to his country and obtain a new visa (i.e. a student visa) from the Indian mission there.
  • To avoid this situation, all self- financing international students are advised to obtain regular or provisional student visa from Indian missions abroad by producing confirmed or provisional letters of admission from the university. The visa can be applied for from any of the Indian Embassies / High Commission. The list of Indian Embassies / High Commission may be viewed at www.mea.gov.in/onmouse/mission.htm) A sample visa form is provided in the prospectus. Yes, while applying for the visa you need to keep in mind the following regulations:
    • Passport valid for a minimum of six months beyond the date of intended departure from India should accompany your visa application.
    • Students holding other nationalities (other than the country where applying for visa), should submit proof of long-term (at least three years)/ permanent residence in the country (where applying).
    • For citizen of other countries, a reference has to be made to their country of residence for which an additional fee is applicable and will involve extra processing time.
    • Please refrain from making inquiries about the status of application during this time.

    Student VISA Fees:

  • The fee structure depends on the nationality of the passport holder and type/duration of visa applied. These fees are payable in the local currency as well. Please check with the embassy in your country for exact visa fees.
    Step -8:

Up On Admission:

  • Upon admission, the student shall inform ‘International Admission Office’ of the University about his/her date of arrival in India, Port of Arrival, Carrier, Flight Number, Date and Time for receiving him/her and for making provisional Accommodation at the University.
  • In order to get properly acclimatized to the new environment, it is recommended that students may reach the University at least three or four days prior to the commencement of the course, for Registration.
  • At the time of Registration, every student shall submit the following documents in original, without which the Registration of Admission will not be made :-
    • Valid Passport with valid Student visa.
    • Migration Certificate in Form-III
    • Certificate in proof of qualification.
    • Mark or Grade sheets of qualifying examination.
    • Parent Declaration in Form-I
    • Student Declaration in Form-II
    • Fund availability certificate in Form-IV
    • Immigration details of Foreigner in Form-V
    • 15 numbers of Passport size photograph.
    • Wherever a document is in language other than English a certified English translation of the document should accompany.
  • First year students to the University will be provided with a set of books and laboratory materials and class notes for which an additional payment shall be made by Demand Draft in Indian rupees.
    Step -9:

Medical Checkup:

  • Every Foreign student admitted to the University shall undergo a Medical Examination including test for HIV/others within 15 days of Joining the University.
  • In case any student is found to be HIV Positive, the Admission granted will be withdrawn and the student will be required to vacate the University premises.
    Step -10:

Registration:

  • Every student on arrival in India , shall register his/her name with the Foreign Regional Registration office at Chennai ( India ), for which the University will provide necessary help.
  • All students staying in India , longer than 6 months are required to register with FRRO.
    The following documents are required at the time of registration with the Foreigners Registration Officer.
  • Photocopy of the passport and initial visa.
  • Four photographs of the applicant.
  • Details of residence in India.
  • HIV test report from one of the WHO recognized institutions for people in the age group of 15 to 60 years, if the foreigner is visiting India on a visa for more than one year.
  • Bona-fide certificate from the University/College/Institution in case of student visa.

  • Foreigners should surrender their certificates of registration to the officer of the place where they are registered or of the place where they intend to depart or to the immigration officer at the port/check post of exit from India . If the certificate is surrendered to anyone other than the immigration officer at the port/check post of exit, the foreigners should produce the receipt indicating such surrender of the document to the immigration officer at the port/check post of exit.
  • Registration is required to be done only once within the stipulated period, even though you may go out of India on multiple entry facility during the validity of the visa. Only if you enter India on a new visa will you be required to register again.
  • Foreigners can visit restricted /protected areas only after getting a valid permit as visa alone is not enough to visit such places.
    • Students once admitted to a Programme, will not be allowed to change.

    • Every student admitted to the University is bound by the rules & regulations of the University and shall be subject to prescribed ‘Code of Conduct’.
    • Ragging in any form is totally prohibited and is declared a criminal offence.
    • Both admission to the University Programmes and Hostel accommodation of the category required shall be on ‘First Come First Serve’ basis.

Before departure from home country:

  • Chennai is a metropolitan city in southern India . The weather throughout the year will be warm to hot during April-June. Though everything that you might need is available in India, try to get all that you would require during the initial few days. This would not only save you the trouble of going to the market, but would also be easy on your finances.
  • Please ensure that you obtain visa from Indian Embassy of your country. Please also ensure that you meet Medical fitness standard before you leave your country. Entry of HIV + ve persons or persons of notified diseases is restricted.
  • Carry all your money in form of Travelers Cheques. These can be redeemed at the airport, all five star hotels, and a number of foreign exchange offices and banks.
  • Don’t forget to carry the originals, copies of your certificates/degrees and two passport size photographs. You will require them at the time of final admission. Also ensure that letter of admission issued by University is brought.
  • Carry a couple of passport size photographs, which might be required at the institute for Identity card, library card etc.
  • Keep all the valuables, important documents (Passport, Visa papers) in the Cabin baggage, to avoid the possibility of their getting misplaced during transit. Keep all the contact phone numbers handy, specially the phone number of your institute & the place you are going to stay.
  • Know the exact address of the University and get the printout of maps, directions to reach those places from airport. You can also get them from the Internet. The University office has already sent you this.
  • Ensure that you have taken all the required vaccinations, to avoid medical complications while you are in India.
  • Send an email to Admission Officer, about your travel program, before embarking. The email should be sent atadmission.int@veltech.edu.in
  • On Arrival: Landing on a different soil, miles away from your home and family can be very discomforting. Nothing can help you better than being prepared for this change. Knowing a little about the city you are going to land in, its customs, people and rules and regulations always helps. Here is a list of things that you should keep in mind, after landing in India .
  • Customs Formalities: This is the first thing you’ll need to take care of. Students are generally required to make an oral baggage declaration in respect of baggage and foreign currency in their possession as soon as they land in India . They are also required to obtain the Currency Declaration Form from the Customs. They should fill in the Disembarkation Card handed over to them by the airline during the course of the flight. There are two channels for clearance:
  • Green Channel: For passengers not in possession of any dutiable articles or unaccompanied baggage.
  • Red Channel: For passengers in possession of dutiable articles or unaccompanied baggage or high value articles. High value articles are to be entered on the tourist Baggage Re-Export Form. If you have emailed your arrival plan and received a reply, then the University Students Relations Officer will receive you at the airport. Otherwise, arrange for someone to pick you up from the airport. Lot of hotels also arrange for an airport pickup. If you are on your own, then always go for a pre-paid cab. They are more reliable than the ones you would get outside the airport.
  • Exchange your foreign currency for some Indian rupees. It’s better to make all payments in the local currency. Carry handy change. A phone call from a public booth costs Rs.2. (This requires you to carry the coins.) It’s a good idea to purchase a city map right away, so that you don’t loose your sense of direction in a new city . Maps are available at every bookshop at the airport.
Eligibility

  • You must have secured at least a “Satisfactory” Grade or equivalent to pass Grade in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for admission to any of the Engineering programmes. In case of Bio-technology or Bio-medical, a pass Grade in Biology or Zoology and Botany instead of Mathematics will be sufficient.
  • In respect of applications to Post Grade Programme in Engineering, a pass in the Four-Year Degree programme in Engineering in the respective branch is a must.
    In respect of application for M.Phil. / Ph.D. Programmes, First Class Post Graduate qualification is required in the area of proposed research.
    If the examination results are not already known, you may still apply without Mark or Grade sheets, but submit the same at the time of Counselling or Admission. In such cases, specify the respective columns in the application as ‘Results awaited’.

Eligibility for Admission to 4 year BTech Programmes

All qualifications recognized as equivalent to +2 stage qualification of an Indian Board ( 10 years of formal academic programme at secondary education level followed by 2 year programme at higher secondary level recognized as entry level academic qualification for admission to any bachelor degree programme in any recognized Indian University) with a pass or satisfactory grade or 50% marks in Mathematics and /or Biology (Botany and Zoology), English, Physics and Chemistry as essential or compulsory subjects of study in 12 year programme or Intermediate or senior secondary or higher secondary or GCE/IGCSE/GCSE as the case may be from a recognized institution. Some specific equivalent programmes are tabulated for reference/ guidance.
Biology as an essential subject instead of Mathematics with Physics and Chemistry will be eligible for Programmes in Biomedical and Bio technology only.
