7th International Project Competition and Exchibition
PROJECT EXHIBITION FOCUSSING ON ATAL GRAND CHALLENGES
The University organized 7th International Engineering Project Competition & Exhibition, VISAI 2017, with an objective to cultivate the awareness and the culture of developing various solutions to National Grand Challenges. This grand event was organized on 23rd & 24th Feb 2017 at the University campus in Avadi, Chennai. Deviating from the conventional practice of inviting projects under different streams in engineering, this year projects were invited under various themes of National importance such as Agriculture, Clean Water, Energy, Environment,Information Communication & Technology (ICT), Transportation, Infrastructure and Manufacturing.
The students from various colleges displayed projects towards the National Grand Challenges. Experts from Leading Industries such as GE, L& T, Daimler, Quest Global, Wabco India, BPCIL, Mahindra, Accenture, Sundaram Clayton, TVS Brakes India, Ashley- ASHOK Leyland and Research institutes such as NEERI, ICAR, CLRI, ITRA, MS Swaminathan Research Foundation were invited to be jury for selection of the best three projects under each theme.
Vel Tech Dr.RR & Dr.SR University through this forum gives an opportunity to students to come with their creative Ideas and demonstrations. Apart from guidance to students to patent their innovation, Vel Tech Technology Business Incubator provides incubation support for identified Start ups.

Around 410 students participated this year as against 334 of last year. The exhibition provided a platform for futuristic engineers to contribute their innovative ideas towards national goals. Three best projects under each theme were selected by a panel comprising of 24 experts drawn from reputed leading industries and Research Institutes in India and 20 teams consisting of 61 students were awarded prizes worth Rs.1, 50,000 (Rupees One Lakh Fifty Thousand).
VISAI was inaugurated by the chief Guest Dr. Philippe ARHETS Counselor – Science & Technology Service New Delhi on 23rd February 2017 at 10.30 am. Mr.Prosanto Kumar Mullick, Head Corporate Quality, INOX WIND Ltd, was the Guest of Honor. The function was presided over by Col.Prof. Vel. Dr. R.Rangarajan, Founder Chancellor & President. Dr.Sagunthala Rangarajan, Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Beela Satyanarayana Vice Chancellor and Dr. U.Chandra Sekhar Pro Vice Chancellor
The event was well supported and sponsored by Vel Tech incubator and M/s Quest Global, Bangalore.
The award ceremony was conducted on 24th February 2017, and Mr.Shailendra Jaiswal, Executive Director, Ministry of Railways was the Chief Guest and gave away the awards to the winning teams. Mr.Ravikumar Samuthiram,Head Technical guidance & Homologation, R&D, Daimler Commercial Vehicles Pvt Ltd and Mr.G.Sridhar, Manager-Human resources, South Asia Visteon Automotive Systems India Pvt. Ltd were the Guest of Honor.
The Guest of Honor Mr.G. Sridhar gave away the prizes and cash awards to Vel Tech Students who won the Outstanding Team Award in the International Students Car Competition that was held in May 2016 in South Korea.
The Guest of honor Mr.Ravikumar Samuthiram highlighted the benefits of participating in such events by all stakeholders i.e.Students,Organizers, Juries and Industries. The Chief Guest dwelt on validating the knowledge acquired through innovation, creativity in day to day activities as being practiced in foreign countries.
The valedictory function was presided over by Col.Prof. Vel. Dr. R.Rangarajan, Founder Chancellor & President. Dr.Sagunthala Rangarajan, Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Beela Satyanarayana Vice Chancellor and Dr. U.Chandra Sekhar Pro Vice Chancellor , of Vel Tech graced the occasion.
