VISAI 2023 - 13th International Project Competition & Exhibition
VISAI was launched nation-wide in 2011, to acknowledge and reward the finest Engineering graduates of our country. Until 2020 the projects were invited under conventional streams such as Computing, Electrical, Mechanical etc.
Since 2020, the conventional stream-wise Projects have been changed to themes based on the 8 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the United Nations, enabling the students to come up with workable ideas/projects in meeting the “Real-world Engineering Challenges”.
This year we have also included Problem statements by Industries as Hackathon Projects and invite student projects under the following two categories:

Hackathon Projects:i.e. Problem Statements given by Industries as student projects

Projects are invited under following problem statement from industry
With implementation of IOT in modern day manufacturing, data are available for monitoring the process as well as Equipment. Smart app is required to capture the spares requirement through IOT and link it with vendor base to verify the stock availability of required spares at vendor end. This requires, common software to be used at vendor as well. As there will be many vendors, smart app with universal compatibility to be developed for the smooth interaction among various vendors. This will automate at what time Purchase Order to be released to particular vendor to get the spares at right time and at right cost.
Every organisation puts effort to ensure compliance to all Statutory norms of the state as well as central government. Depending on the type of Industry and the state in which the manufacturing unit is located, the norms varies. Need to develop a smart app, which will capture all statutory requirements applicable to the particular manufacturing facility and records all the data pertaining to it. It should also record the lead time required for renewal of the licenses or agreement and based on this it will send the reminder to relevant stockholder to ensure adherence. In case of any slippage, necessary escalation matrix to be programed and alarm to be raised.
The information explosion has made it impossible for any human being to systematically index and store electronic documents – papers, catalogs, brochures, news reports, etc., especially for emerging technologies such as electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles, and Advanced Driver Assist Systems. The virtual librarian should be a self-learning sw, capable of identifying the key words from such documents (typically available as a pdf), and enable a user to retrieve relevant documents (using a search GUI). The documents will be spread across the local network (one drive folders of different users – the folders can be added to the application manually).
ROBOT Elevator Call Usecase:
Electric mobility has become an essential part of the future of road transportation. Compared with traditional automobiles, electric vehicles are different in electric drive and control systems utilizing Electronics to a large extent. Detection, diagnosis and prognosis of fault in electric drives, battery packs improve the overall reliability of electric vehicles. Design an prognostic algorithm to estimate a failure of the vital components in an electric vehicle ahead of the failure and develop a protection mechanism to avoid a catastrophic failure, possible areas of exploration could be failures of EV traction motors, battery and battery management system that includes cell balancing modules.
Even if you’re careful, and use good operating procedures, chances are that sometime you’ll end up with you and your tractor stuck in mud, out in the field, with an implement attached. A traditional tractor has a differential lock which when engaged can bring more power the wheels of the tractor. Ideate a similar mechanism for an electric tractor utilizing the various characteristics of an electric motor that will easily maneuver the tractor if it gets stuck in deep mud during operations like puddling operations.
When drivers are in transit, they need to interact with the dispatcher in the Backoffice for multiple purposes. This communication predominantly happens via OBC / Mobile device using text msgs . Given that the driver is focusing on the road in front , an attempt to reply to incoming message might take his / her focus away from the road. Thus its important to build smart capabilities into the OBC / Mobile devices to enable them to reply automatically to the message based on utterances and contextual data in the incoming messages when a driver is in driving mode. This will help improve safety.

Indian government mandated ABS for vehicles >12T and for Buses from Oct’2015. Almost 1.5 million vehicles are on road with ABS in India. Need find suitable insights / use cases using Data Analytics – AI/ML to collect data and provide feedback on real time to Fleets to improve vehicle & road safety.
