Department of Mathematics

Overview

The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1997. The Department has been offering M.Sc. (Maths) and Ph.D. programmes. The department also offers courses supporting to other programmes of B.Tech., M.Tech., M.B.A., M.Sc data analytics, BBA and B.Com. Several courses of the department involve training in software packages so as to augment the computing capabilities of the students. Every semester, the department organizes Faculty Development Programme (FDP) to update the knowledge of the faculty.

To be a Centre of Excellence in teaching and research in Mathematics for innovative and socially relevant technological development and internationally acknowledged for the quality of work in the field of Mathematics.

  • Offering students an academic experiment of “Thinking, Learning and Doing” Mathematics so that they will become contributing and forward-thinking scholars of the science and engineering community;
  • Laying foundation for careers and further study in Engineering and Mathematics;
  • Developing positive attitudes that foster the culture of research and professionalism to satisfy industrial and technological both national and international demands, and
  • Educating individuals, staff and students for their academic excellence and relevance to meet the criteria required by future employers.

The M.Sc. Programme in Mathematics was started from the academic year 2020-21 onwards with maximum intake of 30 students. The curriculum for M.Sc. programme has been developed on the basis of UGC Model Curriculum and the syllabus for UGC – Net Examination with choice-based credit system.

The programme is designed to serve as a certified qualification to both students aspiring for an autonomous degree as well as for those who intend to advance in the field of research. This course has project work which shall be carried out under the supervision of a qualified teacher which will help students to enhance their practical approach regarding the subject. These wide range of courses in algebra, analysis, geometry and probability gives additional perspectives on the mathematical theories by combining general and modern concepts.

Eligibility:

Candidates for admission to the first year of the Postgraduate Degree programme of Mathematics shall be required to have passed

  • B.Sc. with minimum 50% in their respective domain.

The department has 15 renowned supervisors to guide Ph.D. programme in Mathematics.  So far, 21 scholars have been qualified for Ph.D. degree and currently there are 45 scholars are pursuing their research. Some of the thrust areas of research offered by the department are Stochastic Models, Reliability Models, Queuing Models, Neural Networks, Algebra, General Topology, Differential Equation, Fuzzy Set Theory, Graph Theory, Stochastic Graphs, Fuzzy Topology, Fuzzy Graph Theory, Inventory Models, Man Power Planning Models, Non – linear Dynamics, Control Theory, Chaos Theory, Time Series Analysis and Design of Experiments.
