Vice-Chancellor
Prof. Rajat Gupta is a distinguished academic leader, researcher, and institution builder with decades of experience in higher education governance and academic excellence. A National Scholarship holder and a Ph.D. graduate from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, he has made significant contributions to teaching, research, and institutional transformation. Having served as Director of three premier National Institutes of Technology and currently as the Vice Chancellor of Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology. He is widely recognized for driving strategic growth, improving national and global rankings, and fostering innovation-driven academic ecosystems.
A prolific researcher with enormous publications in reputed national and international journals, he has supervised numerous Ph.D. scholars and continues to contribute to the advancement of knowledge. He was recognized among the top 2% scientists globally in 2024 by Stanford University study, underscoring his impact in research and academia.
His international footprint includes visits to various countries such as USA, Portugal, UAE, Germany, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, etc., towards strengthening academic and research collaborations.
He acted as the Chairman- DASA (Direct Admission Students Abroad), A programme of MOE, GOI, Chairman- Mizoram State Centre- Institution of Engineers (India). He acted as a Member of various committees of Govt. of India, Member of AICTE for both UG & PG Model courses, Member of NIF-Ahmadabad, Member of Governing Council of NBA, New Delhi. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), and Member of ASME. He is currently serving as the chairman of NAAC and NBA visiting teams and member of EEAC of NBA, New Delhi.
He has been bestowed with many awards, such as the Education Leadership Award, Rajiv Gandhi Education Excellence Award, and the Eminent Engineering Personality award at the 36th Convention of Mechanical Engineers by the Institution of Engineers (India) in Agartala 2021.
