Prof. Dr. R.S. Valarmathi received her B.E. (Electronics and Communication Engineering) and M.E. (Applied Electronics) degrees from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore in April 1989 and January 2000 respectively. She received her Ph.D. degree at Anna University, Chennai in the area of Biometrics in 2009. She is presently employed as a Professor in the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering & Dean-School of Electrical and Communication at Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. As Dean School of Electrical and Communication she is responsible for all the administrative and academic activities of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering departments.
She is having 34+ years of teaching experience in various reputed engineering colleges and 23 years of research experience. Her research interest includes Biometrics, Image Processing, Signal Processing, Computer Networks, Machine Learning and Soft Computing. She has completed two AICTE sponsored Research Promotion Scheme projects worth 16 Lakh. Received a grant of Rs. 30 Lakh from AICTE to establish an IDEA Lab as a Faculty Coordinator at our institution.
She is Anna University recognized Supervisor for guiding research scholars for Ph.D. and M.S. (By Research) programmes. She has produced 14 Ph.D. graduates under Anna University, Chennai and four graduates under Vel Tech University Chennai.
She is the SMIEEE Member in Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and IEEE Student Branch Counselor, Life member in Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Life member in Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Fellow in Institution of Engineers (IE) and Member in Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
She has published 142 research articles in International and National Journals, 115 research articles in International and National Conferences in the fields of Signal Processing, Image Processing, Biometrics, Networks, VLSI and Cloud Computing. She is the reviewer of many presumed international journals and IEEE, Springer& Elsevier conferences. She has delivered many keynote addresses and guest lectures in reputed institutions. She has travelled to many states across the country and also to overseas viz., Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka for various academic assignments. She has organized many International and National Conferences, Seminars, Workshops and Faculty Development Programs for the benefit of students and faculty members.
She received ISTE Periyar Award for Best Engineering College Teacher, Best Faculty Award under Senior Category from Nehru Group of Institutions-Coimbatore, Best Administrator Award from Dr.Kalam Educational Trust, Chennai and many Best Paper Awards.
