AICTE VAANI workshop
Inauguration
The AICTE VAANI event was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Computing, from July 5, 2024, to July 7, 2024. The Inaugural Function took place on Day 1 (July 3, 2024), in the presence of Registrar Dr. E. Kannan, Dean of R&D Dr. P. Chandrakumar, Dean of SoC Dr. S. P. Chokkalingam, invited speakers Dr. V. Masilamani, Professor at IITDM Kanchipuram, and Dr. B. Surendiran, Associate Professor at NIT Puducherry, Karaikal, along with coordinators Dr. N. Vijayaraj and Dr. S. Saran Raj, organizing committee members, and participants.
The welcome address was given by Mrs. D. Hemalatha, who welcomed the delegates, chief guests, and participants present at the inaugural event. She highlighted the motive behind the AICTE-sponsored event VAANI and its significance. The proceedings continued with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, followed by the lighting of the lamp by the delegates and chief guests, who were then honored by the Registrar and Deans.
The special address was delivered by the Registrar, who emphasized the importance and necessity of the event. He conveyed his gratitude to the AICTE for providing the opportunity to conduct this three-day workshop at our institute. This was followed by Dean R&D, who appreciated the initiative taken by the AICTE VAANI Scheme to promote regional language-based workshops aimed at enhancing participants’ knowledge of recent technologies in Generative Artificial Intelligence.
Dean SoC also welcomed all participants, both internal and external, from various universities and IT industries. He expressed gratitude towards the institute for providing the necessary support to make the event a grand success. The Head of the Department highlighted the event’s importance in today’s learning environment and commended the organizing committee’s commendable efforts for the AICTE VAANI workshop.
Sessions
Session I and II
Resource Person:
Dr. V. Masilamani, Professor, IIITDM, Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu
Topics Covered:
- Text/Image Generation Using GAN
- Transfer Learning in Generative AI
The workshop commenced with the first two sessions, led by Dr. V. Masilamani, a distinguished professor from IIITDM, Kancheepuram. Dr. Masilamani delivered insightful lectures on two important topics in the field of Generative AI.
In Session 1, he focused on “Text/Image Generation Using GAN” where he elaborated on the working principles of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), providing a detailed explanation of how these networks can be utilized to generate synthetic text and images. The session was highly interactive, with participants engaging in thought-provoking discussions around the future applications of GANs.
Session 2 covered “Transfer Learning in Generative AI.” Dr. Masilamani discussed how pre-trained models could be leveraged to improve performance in generative tasks. He highlighted the importance of transfer learning in reducing computational resources and enhancing model accuracy across various AI applications.
At the beginning of the session, Dr. V. Masilamani was honored with a shawl as a token of appreciation, presented by Dr. M. Kavitha, Professor, Department of CSE. The sessions concluded with the felicitation of Dr. Masilamani with a certificate and memento, presented by Dr. S.P. Chokkalingam. Dr. N. Vijayaraj, the event coordinator and Dr. M. Kavitha, Professor Department of CSE was also present during the felicitation ceremony, acknowledging the resource person’s valuable contributions to the workshop.
Participants praised both sessions for the valuable knowledge and practical applications shared, enhancing their skills in advanced AI techniques and expressing gratitude for the enriching experience.
