MESSAGE FROM CHANCELLOR DESK
Col.Prof.Vel. Dr.R. Rangarajan
Chancellor
Col. Prof. Vel. Dr. R. Rangarajan, Chancellor of the Institution has a cherishing memory behind his success. By his absolute perseverance, he rose from an engineer in TNEB to a towering industrialist and blossomed into a doyen among educationists. After graduating with honors in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, he earned a Masters in Automobile Engineering. After a short stint TNEB he established manufacturing facilities for automotives and liners as original equipment to Ashok Leyland. Having emerged as a successful and prosperous industrialist, he felt the urge to contribute something to make India stronger. He realized that creating knowledge asset would propel both social and economic development, national safety and security, he ventured into the educational sector, ably supported and motivated by his wife Dr. Mrs. Sakunthala Rangarajan, and he started a school in Avadi followed by three engineering colleges, two paramedical institutions and an arts and Sciences College in a matter of ten years. Since 1990, the cluster of educational Institutions was established under their trusts in Avadi, Chennai.
As Chancellor, he instituted Mahatma Gandhi National Merit Scholarships to ensure that the poor but meritorious are not denied such access. In order to ensure that every student of these institutions is industry ready, he has implemented many novel and unique programmes incorporated in the curriculum. By his personal intervention and perseverance, he has successfully penned MoUs with reputed Universities and Research establishments all over the world to enable faculty and student enrichment by faculty and student exchange programmes and Interactions with more than 2500 industrial establishments for compulsory industry internships for all engineering students and consultancy arrangements. He has also arranged placement, for this purpose, to make every student employable he has built in a four year structured soft skill courses in the programme. The aim is to be building a highly enriched reservoir of managerial and technically qualified man power. Realizing that the need for research and development, he established an exclusive research park with over 80 laboratories to conceive, nurture and develop joint research between industry and institutes. Vel Tech is India first deemed University to set up a telecom centre of excellence by the Ministry of Communication. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the society at large and the nation in the field of education, Madurai Kamaraj University conferred on him the honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy in 2010 and the Ministry of Defense decorated him with the honorary rank of Colonel.
ALUMNI OFFICER SPEAKS
Mrs. Kasthuri. D, Dean (i/c) – Alumni Relations and Development and a graduate of the class of 2006 of glad Vel Tech Engineering College joined Vel Tech University as the Alumni Officer on 10.05.2015 and with 6 years experience is an asset for all graduated class 15000 drop from 2001 to 2021 (20 years graduated class). She is one who is solely committed to organizing Alumni Scholarship, Alumni meets, Alumni Interaction with Indian and NRI Alumni, and establishing connection with Alumni Higher Studies Abroad Graduated Class Business Visionaries, and making the graduated classes representatives of Vel Tech to other people. Every alumnus is a central correspondence channel to collaborate with the graduated class about the development and updates in the institution.
I wish someone had told me when I started working as an alumni officer that there is a small window of opportunity to engage with your alumni. After that, their lives become too busy and a disconnect with the university sets in. But first, a bit about my background. I joined Vel Tech Institution as the Alumni Officer in 2015. I am responsible for the growth of our alumni association which involves developing and maintaining local, national and international alumni groups, online and offline communications, our social media presence and delivery of a calendar of events. In addition, I need to recognize opportunities to engage our alumni and their organizations in our university engagements. It’s a busy diary. Before I took the job, Vel Tech had a significant network of alumni that were disconnected from the university. I came into it knowing full well that building relationships out of nothing – with people who are now located all over the world – would be a challenge. But I could not have been prepared for the reality; I was trying to reach out to 15000 alumni with limited resources. Meeting your alumni face-to-face is important and gaining a broad understanding of their current industry is necessary if you are to begin an insightful and productive conversation that will lead to greater engagement or a commitment to help the university. Establishing and managing international group activity, when you only see them only It has also been challenging to gain significant knowledge about the many industries our alumni work in. I have to be able to present to all groups something of value that they can gain from maintaining a relationship with their university after they’ve graduated. Most importantly, working with people from different walks of life has been truly rewarding. The future of the alumni association is bound to be interesting. Students who will graduate before the fees increase are likely to think that the university no longer needs their support. They’ll no longer see the need to engage with their alma mater. It is to them we really need to convey that the relationship is about more than just finance. From an alumni relations perspective, a cohesive global network has the potential to deliver excellent results for the institution if it is nurtured correctly. I am proud of what I have achieved till date. Everytime an alumnus shows a greater interest in the university makes me realise that we are taking the right steps.
Mrs. Kasthuri. D,
Dean – Alumni Relations and Development

Alumni Contribution Appeal
Alumni Giving
Vel Tech University today is a global leader among major research universities—and philanthropy plays a tremendous part in its success. Your participation matters at VelTech University. Here’s why…
As alumni, you can choose to contribute in the following categories:
- Infrastructure – A vital infrastructure (classrooms, labs, dorms, sports facilities, and so on) is the trademark of every good institution, which is why it is a key factor in all prominent educational rankings.
- Tuition assistance – This is meant to allow deserving students to pursue an education at Vel Tech despite a lack of financial means. Donors will be allowed to name a scholarship if their gift is large enough to cover a student’s whole academic career.
Institute corpus – This is the institute’s everlasting endowment. The money donated to this category will be invested, and only the interest earned will be used to fund the institute’s top goals. This ensures that the institute receives a continuing benefit from the donation rather than a one-time benefit. Endowments are a cost-effective approach to invest in greater research, education, and people without increasing student prices.
Batch wise contributions can also be made to name different spaces in the institute.

ALUMNI OVERVIEW
Established in 1997, the Vel Tech Alumni Association fosters a lifelong bond between the institute and its alumni. Through a variety of events, programming, and services, the Alumni Association aims to connect alumni, support students, and create an exceptional Institute experience in conjunction with an immensely dedicated volunteer Board of Directors. The Association’s aim is to foster bonds between alumni, students, and the institute in order to keep alumni informed and build a network that allows them to stay connected to their alma mater and help define its future. Alumni are the University’s most enduring legacy and most powerful voice.
The Association’s main duty is to come up with innovative ways to engage its members. Joining the Vel Tech Alumni Association is one of the simplest ways to reconnect with the Institute, contribute back to it, and act as a springboard for future involvement. The Institute and its graduates benefit from having an active and involved alumni network. Our graduates make a difference to the University whether they interact with the Institute or its student body, attend events, work with the Institute on various Legacy projects, or serve as volunteers. The Alumni Association is always looking for new ways to better serve alumni by offering social, educational, and professional experiences that appeal to a wide range of people.
Alumni Year wise strength
Over the last 20 years, the Vel Tech Alumni Association has evolved into a diversified professional network of more than members. Our Alumni community is formed by a prestigious group of industry experts who work in MNCs in the private sector, administration, academia, research, and government organisations.
ALUMNI SPEAK
Whether it’s remembering those glory days in a dorm room, in the classrooms, studying abroad, or having a delicious meal in the dining hall, emotions and memories may run the gamut when it comes to nostalgia for college. These fond recollections motivate an alumna, or alumnus, to attend Alumni activities and reflect on their college years. Read these testimonials from various members of our Alumni Association to take a journey down memory lane.

YEAR OF GRADUATION: 2017
VT/VTU NO: VTU 4312
DEPT: AERONAUTICS
My name is Abdul Samad. I am from the eastern state of Bihar in India. I had completed my intermediate schooling from Bihar, and wanted to become an aeronautical engineer. So, I took admission at Vel Tech college where I got admission based on my merit with 25% on Mahatma Gandhi scholarship. It was my first experience away from home, and at a new place, Chennai, a new city where commonly spoken languages are Tamil and English. My English was not good, I was afraid of how I would survive here and how I would study. But my mentor and teachers were very supportive – they understood the weakness of their students and resolved their problems. I have learned discipline, communication skills, and aeronautics skills that finally made me a good engineer. After completing my B.Tech degree, I moved to Hyderabad for a job in CAD design field. I qualified for the GATE exam in 2019 and finally I moved to Taiwan for higher study. I thank my then department HOD Professor Jagan who supported me a lot in my academics, and Professor Kannan who believed in me for doing my final year project under his advisor. I thank all the assistant professors for giving valuable lectures and helping me to fulfill my dream.

DEPT: ECE
ORGANISATION: Cognizant Technology Solutions
DESIGNATION: Tech Lead
I joined the college in 2011 without much knowledge about Vel Tech, and later my perception changed. I realized it is the only college where you can develop both academics and extracurricular skills such as research and development, entrepreneurship, industry experience, management skills, sports and music. I often say, “All are creating graduate’s but Vel Tech is creating successful engineers and entrepreneurs”. My experience in Vel Tech is huge, starting from meeting and interaction with our beloved people’s president, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam – it is a cherished memory in my life. I was the President of the national level conference “Essacs 14” and overall coordinator for “Essacs13”. I had been involved in two R&D projects with my professors: “Auto Digi Watch ” and “Battery Vehicle Moped”. I have also published various papers in international conferences such as IJSIET and finally, I was the coordinator of EDC cell. Fortunately, my journey with the college did not end in a span of four years – it started a different phase, as an Alumni. I have been invited as chief guest for the National conference ” Essacs 15″. I have interacted with MBA and B.E. students as a part of the “Alumni interaction programme”. I also took a few guest lectures for my juniors. Every year, on January 26th, I participate in the Alumni Get-Together. Overall my experience with college has been fruitful by gaining a lot of knowledge and situational experience, and that is one of the main reasons why I am successful in my career today. Special thanks to my professors, HODs, Alumni coordinator and the college management
ASHOK KUMAR M
YEAR OF GRADUATION: 97-2001 Batch
VT/VTU NO: 112
DEPT: CSE
ORGANISATION: University of applied sciences in Hof, Germany
DESIGNATION: Master student
I belong to the first batch of Vel Tech, batch of 1997. I have been through many ups and downs in life, both professional and personal after my college days. I had earned a lot, and lost a lot. But the thing that kept me going were the values I learnt from my college. One thing which I’ve got in my life still with me at any moment, is my bachelor’s degree of B.E Computer Science & Engineering. After a long struggle to win back my life, I am pursuing an M.B.A degree in Germany. For that, I would say, confidence plays a major role. I have identified and learned that I had strong self-confidence during my bachelor degree days. I would say Vel Tech made me realise that. Still I remember, at a parent-teacher meeting held at our Chairman’s home during my bachelor degree days changed my life forever. The feedback that he had given to me that day made me realize the importance of confidence. That changed my attitude. Later I started to interact with people in any situation by further developing confidence. I have travelled to Singapore, Malaysia, the U.S.A, Dubai and now am living in Germany. I could go around anywhere only with the help of my confidence which I had learned during my days in Vel Tech. I hardly recollect those professors’ names of my college days right now. But evergreen in mind is the Vel Tech campus and our Chairman’s face. I also remember my HOD Ma’am, Mrs. Anbarasi as she also motivated me in continuation with the Chairman’s feedback. I cannot ignore my tutor here (sorry I forget her name, but I can recollect it later). Because of her feedback, Chairman sir gave that lecture to me during the meeting. I still believe without my bachelor’s degree I am nothing; it means without Vel Tech I cannot even imagine myself. When my father decided / accepted to get an admission for B.E Computer Engineering, he was working in Anna University in deputation from T.N.P.W.D, so he enquired his colleagues in DOTE, Chennai. They suggested Vel Tech for us. I would like to thank them as well now. Of course, my batchmates are carved in my memories. If time permits, I want to visit the same lecture room (I hardly remember the room numbers but the block number I remember), spend some time alone to remember my Vel Tech days with a deep breath.

The days I enjoyed the most in Vel Tech were the placement training days. I had a chance to learn a lot. The enthusiasm of the trainers was quite contagious. I started conducting mock interviews for some of my friends. We started sharing critical feedback to each other. Though I joined WIPRO after graduation, I jumped into the training field in a span of three months. Today, I am a happy English language trainer.

First of all, I am very thankful to Vel Tech Deemed University
about building a good future path where we can achieve our dreams and goals. In that place, Vel Tech beats everyone to the first place, where we achieve all that I said, and more. At the end of college life, the thing that makes us and our parents happy is getting out with good placement, or trying for higher studies in reputed colleges. From that perspective, Vel Tech is the only college that I would recommend to anyone. Most students in my batch got placed and settled in our lives, while others opted for higher studies (Master’s Degree) in Taiwan, Singapore, etc which were provided free of cost, all because of the guidance and hard work of the college management and faculties. I am grateful to all my professors, and staff who helped us in every possible way to realise our goals. Miss you Vel Tech. “Don’t stand among one, Be only one among all.” – Vel Tech.
