Established in 1997, the Department of Chemistry is dedicated to academic excellence and cutting-edge research. The department offers M.Sc. (Chemistry) and Ph.D. programs in diverse and emerging research areas. Additionally, it provides foundational and advanced chemistry courses that support B.Tech., M.Tech., and M.Sc. (Physics) programs. Our primary goal is to nurture highly qualified and skilled students by integrating innovative chemistry projects into the laboratory curriculum, ensuring alignment with course and program outcomes.
The department boasts a distinguished team of 20 faculty members, each with significant expertise in both teaching and contemporary research. To date, the department has published over 400 research articles in Scopus, Web of Science, and UGC-CARE-listed journals. Furthermore, it has successfully completed research projects with a total funding of over ₹2.0 crores.
Students receive comprehensive training in chemistry and gain valuable hands-on experience through intensive research projects and industrial internships. To keep pace with the latest advancements, the department organizes workshops, webinars, and Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) annually, benefiting both students and faculty members. Ph.D. scholars, along with select M.Sc. students, actively contribute to research by publishing articles in reputed journals, authoring book chapters, and presenting their findings at conferences. M.Sc. Chemistry
The M.Sc. program in Chemistry provides a comprehensive blend of fundamental and applied knowledge across key disciplines, including Physical, Organic, Analytical, and Inorganic Chemistry. The curriculum follows the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS), allowing students the flexibility to tailor their learning experience based on their interests and career aspirations.

Eligibility
Candidates for admission to the first year of the Postgraduate Degree programme of Chemistry shall be required to have passed.

Teaching Profession in Government Sector after M.Sc. in Chemistry
- Candidates can seek employment with different universities that are accepted by the government of India. Number of universities like the University of Kerala, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Osmania University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Delhi University etc take in M.Sc. chemistry graduates as lecturers if they have cleared NET.
- Candidates who have a B.Ed. degree can go for teaching career in schools. As one might know, an M.Ed. degree alongside NET/SLET is required for candidates to apply for teaching posts in colleges or universities. Research Activities
The Department of Chemistry has multidisciplinary and diverse research and teaching activities that can cover a wide range of fields, including fundamental studies, applied research, and interdisciplinary projects. The department offers active research programme to post graduate and Ph.D scholars to advancing knowledge in various subfields of chemistry while contributing to real-world applications. The department aims to strengthen and encourage interdisciplinary research, where scholars collaborate with researchers in fields such as biology, physics, engineering, or materials science. This expands their knowledge and allows them to apply chemical principles to problems in other domains and trained scholars to prepare research posters, learning how to communicate complex ideas visually to a broad audience through presentation and publications. Department often involves collaboration with other fields as Physics, Biology, Engineering and Environmental Sciences, as well as partnerships with industry and governmental agencies. The focus may also shift according to contemporary challenges like sustainability, renewable energy and eco-friendly and green synthesis.
The department has nineteen authorized research supervisors with strong academic and research backgrounds. Most of the faculties completed their Ph.D. from reputed institutions like IIT Madras, CLRI, NCL, VIT and other state universities and gained post-doctoral experiences in various overseas nations like South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia and France. The faculty members of the department have published more than research publications in reputed international journals indexed in scopus and web of science and published textbooks and patents during the last five years.
The department organizes specialized invited talks of eminent professors and also organize workshops, Faculty development programme, conference and other short-term courses. The department have high tech instruments and equipment’s open to PG students and scholars including high vacuum pump, Sonicator, hot air oven, pH and conductivity meter, UV-Visible spectroscopy, spectrophotometry, flame photometry, Magnetic stirrers and high-speed rotary centrifuge machine for successful research activities.
