Dean – Freshman Engineering
Dr. G. Gunasekaran is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and holds the position of Dean-FME (Freshman Engineering) at Vel Tech, Deemed to be a university. He has over 35 years of experience in academics and industry. He obtained his B.Sc. in mathematics at SRNM College in 1985 and his B.E. at National Engineering College in 1989. He then earned his M.E. in 2001 and Ph.D. in 2009 from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, and has a rich background in Computer Science Engineering. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Gunasekaran has held various leadership positions, including Principal, Dean, and Head of the Department of CSE and IT at several reputable institutions, such as V.R.S. College, Sriram, Jeppiaar, JNN, Tagore, SRM, MGR, and Meenakshi Group of Institutions.
He was awarded the best faculty award by the Association of Scientists, Developers, and Faculties in 2016, received an appreciation certificate for the subject of software engineering in 2008, received cash awards for 100% results, and received robots and other compliments from IIT Bombay for effective coordination of the robotic challenge program at JNN Institute Engineering College, Chennai, India.
He has been involved in various administrative roles and has served as a Board of Studies (BoS) member at different institutions. Additionally, he has chaired and organized numerous sessions at prestigious international conferences, workshops, and symposiums. He has also participated in national and international conferences and has served as a keynote speaker at AICTE Staff Development Programs, seminars, and workshops.
As an active researcher, he has published approximately 104 papers indexed in Scopus, including 54 papers published in International journals, 40 papers in international conference proceedings, and 10 papers published in national conference proceedings. He has authored two books, secured one patent, and obtained a funding project from a private agency. Additionally, he is a member of various academic forums and is a recognized supervisor who has guided nearly 19 Ph.D. scholars from diverse institutions.
As the Dean-FME, he takes care of the academics of the freshmen engineering students. He is also responsible for the internal evaluation of the effectiveness of the institution’s programs, policies, administration, faculty, and staff. He is a man known for his meticulousness.
